The Ghost and Mrs. Muir

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947) starring Gene Tierney, Rex Harrison, George Sanders. A lonely widow (Tierney) is romanced by the ghost of a dead sea captain (Harrison) in her cottage by the sea. The movie sustains its charm by allowing the characters to maintain their decorum (the sea captain never touches the widow, although he is shown touching other characters in the movie). When the widow falls for a flesh-and-blood man (Sanders), the sea captain voluntarily fades out of the picture to let events go where they will. It's a well mounted film, with scarcely an off note.
