To Kill a Mockingbird (DVD)

To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) starring Gregory Peck, Brock Peters, Phillip Alford, Mary Badham. Peck won an Oscar for his portrayal of Atticus Finch, a small-town lawyer in Alabama during the Depression. Finch is called on to defend an African-American (Peters) against a rape charge, and to try to explain the ugliness of the world to the Finch children, Jem and Scout (Alford and Badham). It's a trial drama, a tragedy, and an atmospheric evocation of childhood all in one movie; it's an American classic. Robert Duvall made his film debut as Boo Radley. Grade: A-

I must agree with Jim Larsen on his review of the movie To Kill A Mockingbird. This is one of my all time favorite movies. Gregory Peck's acting is exceptional. The story is set in a small town with the antics of a brother and his little sister, their friend, and a special next door neighbor;
all-the-while their father is a passionate defense attorney who is embroild in a trial that has everyone in the town watching. The tragedy, trial, and the finding awareness of others that changes the life of so many is worth watching. An American classic, indeed. Grade: A
