Wet Hot American Summer
Wet Hot American Summer (2001) starring Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde-Pierce, Paul Rudd, Christopher Meloni, Molly Shannon, Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks. The only summer-camp movie I've ever seen was Meatballs, so I don't have much to go on, but this film is said to be a parody of summer-camp movies. It involves a bunch of young campers and their immature counselors at a summer camp in 1981, so maybe it could function as a nostalgia piece for some viewers of a certain age. There is a lot of off-the-wall humor, a lot of jokes that really push the envelope of taste, a lot of attempts to be funny. Some of them succeed. This is by no means a great movie, but it's a harmless way to spend an evening; plus, you get to see a lot of today's comedy stars back before they made it big. (Subtitles are not furnished on the disc, but it does have closed captions.) Grade: B
