Rust and Bone

Rust and Bone (2012) starring Marion Cotillard, Matthias Schoenaerts. A woman named Stephanie (Cotillard) loses her legs in an accident at Marineworld, and a man named Ali (Schoenaerts) befriends her and "helps" in her recovery. Ali is a street fighter with a five-year-old son whom he doesn't really know how to relate to. The portions of the movie where Stephanie are featured are compelling, but the ones with Ali are less so. Somehow the two of them come together and fall in love. I found the movie less than satisfying. The two main characters just didn't mesh in my mind. (In French, with English subtitles.) Grade: B-
